Witt 1/5/96 Director Research and Development Division SUBJECT: Pilot Crop Insurance Program Announcement for Millet The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) has received approval to offer a pilot crop insurance program for millet. The millet pilot program will be an Actual Production History (APH) plan of multiple peril crop insurance (MPCI), offered for the 1996, 1997, and 1998 crop years. The pilot program will be offered in the following states and counties: COLORADO NEBRASKA NORTH DAKOTA SOUTH DAKOTA -------- -------- ------------ ------------ Logan Cheyenne Dickey Bennett Deuel Millet producers may sign up for catastrophic coverage through their insurance agent or the local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office. Additional coverage is available through an approved crop insurance agent. Coverage must be purchased before the March 15, 1996, sales closing date for the 1996 crop year. In the millet pilot program counties, linkage requirements to be eligible for certain other Department of Agriculture program benefits apply for millet as with any other insurable crop. The crop provisions, actuarial information, training materials, and loss adjustment procedure will be provided in the near future.
