Witt Deputy Administrator SUBJECT: Prevented Planting for Sugar Beets in California BACKGROUND: The 1998 and 1999 Sugar Beet actuarial documents for all California counties contain option codes to increase the level of prevented planting coverage. The Sugar Beet Crop Provisions, 98-039, state that prevented planting coverage is not available in California counties with a July 15 cancellation date. The only counties in California that have prevented planting coverage for sugar beets are Imperial, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, and Siskiyou Counties. ACTION: Since prevented planting coverage is not provided in the Sugar Beet Crop Provisions for counties with a July 15 cancellation date, please disregard the option codes for sugar beet prevented planting coverage in any county other than the five listed above. The option codes will be removed from the 2000 crop year actuarial documents in all but the five applicable counties.
