USDA REMINDS PRODUCERS TO CONSIDER IMPACT OF NASS COUNTY CROP ESTIMATE DATES
WHEN CHOOSING CROP INSURANCE
WASHINGTON, Jan 14, 2010 - Producers should carefully consider their risk management needs when they choose
the most appropriate crop insurance program for their 2010 crops because USDA’s National
Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will be releasing 2009 county crop estimates later than normal.
More information about the NASS schedule is
available at:
http://www.nass.usda.gov/Newsroom/Notices/2010/01_12_2010a.php.
NASS will publish county estimates for small grains, including wheat, barley and oats, on Friday, Feb 19. In addition, NASS will publish county estimates for major row crops, on Friday, Feb 26, with some exceptions for corn and soybeans.
For some states, NASS will publish
county estimates on March 26. NASS has yet to determine a release date for corn in North and South Dakota.
Although NASS county estimates for 2009 crop year crops will be released later than normal, RMA anticipates
receiving them in sufficient time to consider them as a basis for its determination of final payment yields
and final county yields in accordance with applicable policy language and timeframes.
